This Early Tang (618–712) painting is located on the left side of the front (east) wall in the main chamber. The Buddha is seated in the center and is flanked by two disciples and two Bodhisattvas. The Buddha wears red and green monastic robes and is seated in full lotus position on a lotus throne with hands forming the Dharmacakra (Dharma wheel) mudra. The canopies of two trees hang above the Buddha. The two disciples hold objects in their hands and stand facing the Buddha. On the left is Ananda and on the right is Mahakasyapa. The two attendant Bodhisattvas have full faces and long, blue hair falling over their shoulders. They wear colorful clothing that is unique to this painting.
