Tumxuk: Heavenly Being

CHINA, Xinjiang, Tumxuk

The figure, discovered at Tumxuk, is youthful looking and athletic. The left leg is raised as if dancing, causing the heavy garment with its many flounces to sway to one side. A tunic falls from the left shoulder, leaving the right shoulder and part of the chest bare. A chest ornament remains, though without visible support, and a large floral decoration encircles the right forearm. The right hand is raised in what is probably a dance movement. Braided hair is arranged on the head and cascades down on either side of the almost impassive face.
