Sanggrahan Temple

Sanggrahan Temple

INDONESIA, East Java, Tulungagung

Also known as Prutung (Incomplete) Temple, it was built in the late 14th century during the Majapahit Empire (circa 13th–16th century).
The temple was built on a 2.25 m high platform with multiple corners. It was built in andesite stone, camphor stone, and brick. The temple is largely in ruins and only the base remains. There are several Buddha statues remaining with their heads are missing. The biggest among these is a statue of Amitabha Buddha, with an estimated height of approximately 95 cm, including the missing head. The statues are intricately and delicately carved, and their quality can be compared with that of the Buddha statues of Borobudur.
