Kizil Cave 171: Stupas

CHINA, Xinjiang, Aksu

Two rows of stupas are painted on the outer walls of both the left and right corridors. The finial of each is triangular, with two banners flying at the top. The banners are raised midway as if flapping in the wind. The bodies of the stupas are square and the bases are rectangular. The red circles in the center of each stupa appear to have been applied later. The background is a deep grassy green, dotted with small blue-centered flowers with white petals, revealing a fresh and elegant style.
