Gameunsa Temple: Chimes

SOUTH KOREA, North Gyeongsang, Gyeongju; Unified Silla dynasty

These chimes were excavated from Gameunsa Temple between 1979 and 1980. They have the distinctive style of the Unified Silla dynasty (668–935).
The larger chime, whose crown is missing, is 27.5 cm high and curves gently downwards from the shoulder. The curved rim is decorated with a band, and at the top, there are four panels, each with nine studs. There is a raised boss with a lotus pattern towards the bottom.
The smaller chime is 11 cm high and has a similar shape. There is no decoration on the surface, but there are four holes in the upper section of the body. There is a plain square crown with a round hole at the top.
