Cihang Temple

TAIWAN, New Taipei City

The temple is named after Master Cihang, who passed away in 1954. In order to venerate the full body relic of Cihang and commemorate his great deeds, a temple was built in 1963 by monk Dao’an, together with nuns Xuanguang and Xiuguan. In 2003 the temple was moved to the current location.
The temple was built according to the contours of the hill and consists of the main temple gate, the main hall, and the Cihang Memorial Hall. There is a stone with an imprint of the Buddha’s footprint in the temple. The three-bay wide main temple gate has a square doorway in the center flanked by two arched doorways. The roof ridge has swallowtail ends.
The main hall was built in the Tang style. It has a single-eave hip-and-gable roof covered with bronze glazed tiles. The ends of the main ridge have 1.5 m high gilt bronze ornaments. It is the only example of a Tang dynasty style building in Taiwan. The hall is spacious and the roof is supported by square stone columns surmounted by stone bracket sets. The hall houses a statue of Amitabha Buddha.
The Cihang Memorial Hall is located at the rear of the main hall. It has an octagonal pyramidal roof with upward curving eaves. The memorial hall contains Master Cihang’s full body relic, which is revered by devotees.
