The sculpture is dated to 703 by an inscription and identifies Gao Yangui as the person who commissioned it. The seated Amitabha is carved in mid-relief. The Buddha is accompanied by two Bodhisattvas who carry attributes. A stole crosses the Bodhisattvas’ chest while another stole trails down their arms to the pedestal. Two smaller figures kneel at the foot of the Buddha’s lotus throne and two more are carved into the base. The triratna is engraved in the lintel above the three figures, while apsaras float on either side.
