Jangyuksa Temple: Seated Bodhisattva

Jangyuksa Temple: Seated Bodhisattva

SOUTH KOREA, North Gyeongsang; Joseon dynasty

The statue was originally installed in Wijangsa Temple, on Yongdusan, and was later relocated to Jangyuksa Temple after the former was destroyed. The statue was commissioned by the government official Pei Jin and local residents of Yeonghae in 1395 according to the documents found within it. It was listed as Treasure No. 993 in 1989.
The Bodhisattva wears a gilt-bronze crown, decorated at the sides with patterned bronze plates, and an intricate necklace with pendants around the neck. The figure is seated in full lotus position and leans forward with the left hand cupped and the right hand raised while in lotus mudra. The Bodhisattva wears an outer garment overspread with beaded ornaments over an inner robe.
