Ink and color on silk
In this painting from the Goryeo dynasty, Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva is depicted as a slender figure with narrow eyes and a distant gaze, surrounded by a large mandorla. The left hand is placed on a rocky outcrop and the right arm rests upon the right knee. Dressed in a dhoti, a transparent stole, ornaments, and a headdress with a Buddha image in the middle, the Bodhisattva sits with the left leg hanging down and the right knee raised, appearing relaxed and serene. On the right beside Avalokitesvara there is a vase holding willow branches placed on a rock. Sudhana stands in the lower right corner with his palms joined in reverence.
