Iron
The figure is one of a series of similarly styled iron Buddhas made at the end of the 9th century. It was listed as Treasure No. 667 in 1980.
The Buddha wears a monastic robe that leaves the right shoulder bare and hangs over the left wrist. The folds in the material over the upper body are realistically depicted and gather in oval shapes over the calves. The right hand is raised in lotus mudra and the left hand holds a medicine pot. The stud representing the urna is still in place but the original mandorla and throne have been lost.
