Located on the walls of Cave 3, this mural, together with the Buddha images on the columns, was painted over centuries after the construction of the original cave. Part of the mural has peeled away leaving details difficult to discern. The Buddha is seated on the right side, with a bead pattern canopy over the head. The Buddha has arched eyebrows and a downcast gaze with a gentle smile. The right arm is slightly lifted. Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva assumes a standing posture to the left of the Buddha. The light-skinned Bodhisattva has a high topknot and the head is turned toward the Buddha. In the Bodhisattva’s right hand is a lotus flower. Another depiction of Avalokitesvara as the rescuer from the eight dangers can be seen in the corridor of this cave.
