Stone
One of the most impressive of the large Buddhas from the Goryeo dynasty (918–1392), this statue was listed as Treasure No. 407 in 1964.
The Buddha is carved into a rock face measuring 8 m in height and 9 m in width. The body is carved on a convex surface, and the head is cut from a slight overhang in such a way that it looks down from above. The figure shows a transition between high relief on the upper half, and line incision on the lower half. The raised folds of the monastic robe ripple downwards in between the incised verticals of the sleeves.
