Amitabha Buddha and Bodhisattvas

According to the inscription written in gold at the bottom, this painting was commissioned by the nun Meonghak and dedicated to Consort Hye of the Jeong clan. It was later brought to Japan and is currently kept in Raigoji Temple.
In the upper register, Amitabha Buddha is seated in full lotus position on a lotus throne flanked by attendant Bodhisattvas and monks. The figures are surrounded by pagodas of the seven treasures and scattered flowers. In the lower register, Amitabha Buddha and the Eight Great Bodhisattvas ride on a dragon boat. With the right hand, Amitabha points down at Consort Hye of the Jeong clan, who has a topknot and sits upright with her palms joined in reverence. The Buddha, Bodhisattvas, clouds, waves, and dragon boat are traced in delicate gold lines.
