Sujongsa Temple Five-Tier Pagoda: Reliquary Pagodas and Stupa

These items were recovered from the five-tier stone pagoda of Sujongsa Temple when it was being repaired in 1939. They include a gilt bronze nine-tier pagoda, a gilt silver hexagonal pagoda, and a crystal reliquary bottle. They were listed as Treasure No. 259 in 1963.
The square nine-tier pagoda stands on an openwork base. The first tier is enclosed by balustrades and there are ogee arch doors on all four sides. The eaves are close together and wind chimes hang from the corners. At the top, there is a dew receiver decorated with a scroll leaf pattern.
The gilt silver hexagonal pagoda stands on an inverted lotus base. An extension of the base features delicate engravings of flowers, leaves, and lotus petals. In the center, there is a crystal reliquary bottle with relics inside. The pagoda body, which fits over the base extension, is decorated with an openwork floral pattern. It has a hexagonal pyramidal roof surmounted by a jewel.
