Busosanseong: Sakyamuni Buddha Triad

SOUTH KOREA, South Chungcheong, Buyeo; Three Kingdoms period

Unearthed from Busosanseong in 1919, this triad features a robed Sakyamuni Buddha standing on a rounded base with hands performing the varada (wish-granting) and abhaya (fearlessness) mudras. The lower edges of the flame-patterned mandorla incorporate attendant Bodhisattvas, while a small Buddha figure supported on a lotus appears at the top. An inscription on the back states that the statue was made by the donor, Jeong Jiwon, for his deceased wife. It was listed as Treasure No. 196 in 1963.
