Chen Bangxuan

CHINA, Fujian, Xiamen; Qing dynasty

Chen Bangxuan, also known as Bao Gu or Zhong Zi, was a painter skilled in creating ink paintings of both landscapes and religious figures. In 1885, he moved to Tainan, Taiwan and made a living by selling his paintings. He later lived in Changhua, Qianyuan, Beiguoyuan, and temporarily in Hsinchu, a period during which he painted one Buddhist or Daoist painting each day. His famous works include Bodhidharma and Watching a Chess Game Under a Pine Tree.
