Famen Temple Pagoda: Vessel

CHINA, Shaanxi, Baoji; Tang dynasty

This vessel was one of the 14 celadon items, including bowls, plates, and vases, that were recovered from the underground palace of Famen Temple Pagoda in 1987. These precious treasures provide important information for the study of Chinese ceramics.
The vessel is 21.5 cm high and has a base with a diameter of 8 cm. It has a shallow and round base, an octagonal body, gently sloping shoulders, and a slender neck with a small mouth. At the neck-body meeting point, there are three decorative ridges. The vessel is covered in an olive green celadon glaze, which produces a glossy appearance.
