This early work by Han Deng’an is composed of four characters carved in regular script calligraphy, which is a unique and rare occurrence in seal engraving. Each stroke is thin and angular, evident of stable and skilled knife work.
Han Deng’an originated from Xiaoshan district in Hangzhou, Zhejiang. He had an original name of Jing and a nickname of Zhongzheng. Han mastered the art of seal engraving by studying the style of Wang Fu’an, and eventually created his own classic style that was reminiscent of Qin (221–207 BCE) and Han (206 BCE–220 CE) seals.
