Silsangsa Temple Seojinam Hermitage: Arhats

The picture shows two of the five Arhats located at Silsangsa Temple. Both figures sit cross-legged, wearing loose cross-collared robes and a headgear with a cloth attached that protects the neck. The hands of one of the Arhats are in the lap in a loose dhyana (meditation) mudra while the other figure rests his hands on his knees. The first figure sits on a stone support with the folds in the robe carefully carved. An inscription on the base dates the carving to 1516. The other statue is of an older male with robes roughly incised and no indication of a separate base.
