Fo Guang Shan Yuan Thong Temple

Fo Guang Shan Yuan Thong Temple

PHILIPPINES, Negros Occidental, Bacolod City

Yuan Thong means Perfect Understanding. In 1987, the board of directors of Fazang Temple in Bacolod invited monastics from Fo Guang Shan to propagate the Dharma there. Devotees represented by Cai Shuhui and Chen Suzhen expressed their wishes to donate a piece of land to Master Hsing Yun in 1990. Fo Guang Shan then constructed a branch temple in Bacolod and named it Yuan Thong Temple.
The temple occupies 2,988 sq m and the main structure is a three-story building. The roof consists of multiple eaves that are covered with yellow glazed tiles. The building contains Perfect Understanding Hall, dining hall, meditation hall, memorial hall, meeting rooms, library, and classrooms. Perfect Understanding Hall houses the Thousand-Armed Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva. In addition to regular Dharma functions, the temple also conducts lectures on Buddhism and other educational courses. The temple is also active in charitable activities at orphanages and senior homes.
