Baguashan: Great Buddha

TAIWAN, Changhua

The statue is located within Baguashan Scenic Area and was completed in 1961. Seated in full lotus position on a lotus throne with the dhyana (meditation) mudra, the Buddha has tightly curled hair, a broad nose, and a square jaw, with elongated ears slightly sticking out at the sides. A monastic robe covers both shoulders and has a low collar. The interior consists of six stories which one can enter from the lotus throne underneath. The first story houses a shrine, while the remaining stories contain reliefs that depict the Life of the Buddha.
