This statue of Maitreya is located in an open air setting among rocks behind the Perfect Understanding Hall of Daejosa Temple. It was listed as Treasure No. 217 in 1963.
The figure’s body is pillar-like and the square hewn face tapers upwards to the long cylinder-like crown topped with a rectangular canopy. The folds of the monastic robe are carved in relief. An iron lotus stem has been inserted into the damaged right hand.
