Kumgangsan Jeongyangsa Temple Stone Lantern

NORTH KOREA, Kangwon, Hoeyang

The stone lantern is located in front of the three-tier stone pagoda at Jeongyangsa Temple on Kumgangsan (Diamond Mountain). It is one of the most important hexagonal stone lanterns built during the Goryeo dynasty (918–1392).
The lantern is 2.9 m high. The base consists of an inverted lotus followed by a pillar supporting the body of the lantern. The body is divided into three layers: an upright lotus base, the middle part with six oval openings, and the steep hexagonal pyramidal roof, which turns upwards at the corners. A jewel sits atop the point of the roof.
