Ajanta Cave 17: Ceiling

Ajanta Cave 17: Ceiling

INDIA, Maharashtra, Aurangabad

This ceiling is located within the main hall. A round lotus flower is painted in the center and surrounded by concentric circles. Beyond these, rectangular borders of green, blue, white, red, and yellow are decorated with lotus flowers, floral patterns, kinnaras, birds, figures making offerings, and other auspicious images. The four corners of the ceiling each contain a heavenly being. The design of the ceiling and the octagonal columns within the cave complement one another.
