
Tenma Sangye Lhawang was a Tibetan monk and painter from Dege county of Garze in the Kham region. He studied under the Eighth Karmapa and was active during the 16th century.
Between the 200 year time period spanning the founding of the Menri school in the mid-15th century and the appearance of the New Menri school in the mid-17th century, Tenma Sangye Lhawang showed extraordinary accomplishments among the many talented artists. He was proficient in various Tibetan painting styles and his representative artworks are the murals in Karma Gon Monastery, as well as paintings in the White Hall and Yellow Hall of Saga Monastery.
