Manuscript of the Kammavaca

MYANMAR

This manuscript is a copy of the Kammavaca, a ritual text of nine chapters extracted from the Vinaya and used during the ordination of monks and nuns. It is thought to have originated in either Ammarapura or Mandalay.
The manuscript is written in black ink on 14 ivory boards. The covers have red lotus patterns with geometric designs similar to mandalas. Some boards feature geometric patterns on either side of the text.
