This mural is on the left wall of the main hall and extends onto part of the back wall. The story is described in Pali Jataka No. 539 about the Buddha’s past life as Prince Mahajanaka. Before the prince was born, his father was assassinated by his uncle, who then usurped the throne. When he grew up, the prince pursued various means in order to reclaim the kingdom; however, after receiving teachings from a sage, he decided to renounce worldly life in pursuit of truth.
The story is depicted through several scenes, including Mahajanaka watching a performance, listening to the teachings of the sage, announcing his decision to renounce the worldly life, leaving the palace, and preparing for renunciation. The complex structure of the mural is impressive, with large groups of people and a variety of costumes painted in detailed images. Though the mural has suffered some damage, the palace architecture and human expressions are preserved in vivid detail.
