Letter from Guan Daosheng to Master Zhongfeng Mingben

CHINA; Yuan dynasty

This letter, consisting of 513 characters in 33 lines, was written by Guan Daosheng. It was given to Master Zhongfeng Mingben and expressed Guan’s extreme gratitude for his compassionate guidance. Her Prajnaparamita Sutra copy demonstrates her diligent Buddhist practice.
Guan Daosheng was the wife of the famous calligrapher, Zhao Mengfu. Her own calligraphy was influenced by Zhao, though she maintained her own style. The calligraphy, though not as straight and smooth as Zhao’s, still delivers the simple nature of a friendly letter and is worthy of praise.
