Jixiang

CHINA, Zhejiang, Huzhou; Qing dynasty

Jixiang, also known as Zhuyun, was a monk and artist. He initially lived in Yanjiao Temple in Zhejiang and later became abbot of Jingci Temple in Zhejiang. Jixiang learned the arts of calligraphy and painting from Dong Qichang. His painting technique is said to be of particular strength. In addition, he was keen on poetry and was close with Ruan Yuan, the well-known poet and government official of Zhejiang.
In a total of 28 fascicles, Jixiang recompiled Records of Jingci Temple Build by Imperial Decree. His calligraphic works include the inscription on Jing Hao’s Landscape painting, written in running script, and is kept at Ho’s Calligraphy Foundation in Taipei, Taiwan.
