Schist
The statue has all the characteristic features of Gandharan art. The Buddha stands on a decorated pedestal with his weight resting on the right leg, as the left knee is slightly bent. The wavy hair and mounded usnisa stand out against the plain nimbus. The facial features are distinctive, with hooded eyes, a prominent nose, and a downturned mouth fringed with a mustache. An urna is between the eyebrows. The folds of the monastic robe adapt themselves to the body, with the turn of the material about that arm held in place by the left hand. The right hand is raised and supports the fall of the robe’s excess material, where the under-robe is made visible beneath.
The front of the pedestal depicts a stupa in a square frame, on either side of which are worshippers that include monks and female devotees. Squat columns enclose the corners.
