Mandala of Mount Sumeru

CHINA; Qing dynasty

This mandala measures 20 cm high and 18.5 cm in diameter. The round base is fringed with a bead pattern and decorated with flowers, vines, and turquoise. Standing on top of the base is a representation of Mount Sumeru, which is covered by a square shrine. On the four sides of the shrine, there are doorways with figures such as Yamantaka within. There are eight kinds of offerings above the doorways. The whole structure is surmounted by a multi-story tower with triple eaves, surrounded by canopies, banners, vases, parapet walls, and three gateways with double eaves at the front.
