Khochhen Rinpoche from Mindrolling Monastery in Tibet migrated to India and built this monastery in the likeness of their old monastery in 1965. This statue is located within the new monastery grounds.
The Buddha stands on a double lotus pedestal. The figure wears a loose-fitting monastic robe that covers both shoulders and a lower robe tied at the waist. The right hand is in abhaya (fearlessness) mudra and the left hand in varada (wish-granting) mudra. The nimbus is enclosed within a mandorla, both are hollow but supported by a lattice-like frame. These elements are decorated with painted jewels and foliated patterns. The entire Buddha is painted in gold except for the hair and facial features.
