Hyozu Taisha Shrine: Pendant

JAPAN, Shiga, Yasu; Kamakura period

Made of gilt copper, this almond-shaped pendant is encircled by flower garland, which is wider at the top and consists of overlapping petals. A suspension loop is affixed to the top of the garland. The seed syllable for Vairocana Buddha appears on a lotus at the center. Around the outside of the pendant are flaming motifs, and there are ribbons above and on either side of it.
