Liu Yanchong was a painter who had an original name of Liu Rong and a nickname of Yongzhi, and specialized in landscape, figure, and floral depictions. Born in Tongliang district, Chongqing, he began by creating copies of famous works by various painters, and later studied under Zhu Angzi. He was also skilled in poetry and literature.
Extant paintings by Liu include House Among Pine Trees and a copy of Landscape originally by Wang Nian, kept at the Shanghai Museum, Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, kept at Lingyanshan Temple in Jiangsu; and Landscape at Tiger Hill, at the Palace Museum in Beijing. In addition to painting, Liu authored Surviving Manuscripts Stored in the Guishizhai.
