Ajanta Cave 10: Figures in Celebration

INDIA, Maharashtra, Aurangabad

This mural is located on the left wall of the caitya cave. The scene depicts figures in celebration. The figures are all female, who have been divided into two groups by trees. Some can still be identified as having an earthy yellow complexion, and a wash technique was used to create a three-dimensional effect. The figures are depicted both seated and standing. Some are turned to each other in conversation, while others hold musical instruments or dance in celebration. They are youthful and are adorned with necklaces and other ornaments. Most of them wear head scarves.
