Andong: Bell

Bronze

Andong: Bell

SOUTH KOREA, North Gyeongsang, Andong; Goryeo dynasty

This bronze bell was excavated from Andong. The crown of the bell is in the form of an ornate dragon with an acoustic tube behind it. The shoulder is decorated with a band of beads and petal patterns. Beneath this band, there is a ring of inverted lotus petals. The waist of the bell features string beads with medallions attached. On the sound rim, there is a final band of lotus petals. The distinguishing characteristics of this bell include the replacement of a raised boss with a patterned one, as well as the dragon and acoustic tube elements on the crown.
