Located on the south side of the cliff face outside the entrance of Longhong (Dragon Water) Cave, this niche contains freestanding sculptures of a Bodhisattva and a Heavenly King. The Bodhisattva wears a headdress containing a Buddha image, inner and outer loose sleeved robes, and a long lower garment. The facial features are delicate, with long eyebrows and partially closed eyes. Sitting in full lotus position on a lotus throne draped with a cloth, the Bodhisattva holds a lotus bud in both hands. A nimbus is carved on the wall behind the head.
The Heavenly King, standing to the side of the Bodhisattva, is considerably smaller in size. The king wears finely detailed body armor, boots, and a helmet. The figure’s round face is turned slightly towards the Bodhisattva, and the palms are joined. A piece of cloth hanging from the king’s belt is carved with a delicate swaying motion, giving the impression that it is blowing in a gentle breeze.
