Dou Hongguo

CHINA; Tang dynasty

Dou Hongguo was a sculptor and painter who was active during the rule of Emperor Zhongzong (reigned 683–710) of the Tang dynasty and Empress Wu Zetian (reigned 684–705). His works include the statue of Maitreya Bodhisattva, at Jing’ai Temple in Henan, which dates from 665. Dou’s biography was recorded in Famous Paintings in History.
