Baekga was a painter who was appointed to a tribute mission alongside Buddhist monks, architects, and craftsmen to assist in the construction of temples in Japan during the rule of King Wideok (reigned 554–598) of the Baekje dynasty. According to Chronicles of Japan, in 588, the team built Asukadera Temple in Nara under the invitation of Soga no Umako.
