Seokguram Grotto: Sakra

SOUTH KOREA, North Gyeongsang, Gyeongju; Unified Silla dynasty

This depiction of Sakra, located to the left of the main chamber’s entrance, is presented in bas-relief. This representation shows Sakra with a full face wearing a headdress. A whisk is held in the right hand, and a vajra is supported in the left. The style corresponds with Sakra’s description in the Commentary on the Mahavairocana Sutra.
