Eunhaesa Temple Baekheung Hermitage Ultimate Bliss Hall: Illustration of the Ullambana Sutra

This painting based on the Ullambana Sutra is kept in the Ultimate Bliss Hall of Baekheung Hermitage in Eunhaesa Temple. The upper register shows the arrival of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, the middle register features two hungry ghosts, and the lower register portrays beings suffering in the lower realms. The painting is listed as Provincial Tangible Cultural Property No. 319 of North Gyeongsang.
In the upper register, Amitabha Buddha stands on the right with Avalokitesvara and Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattvas. In the center, six Buddhas and Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva guide beings in the lower realms to the Western Pure Land. The colorful clouds surrounding the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas distinguish the Pure Land from the hell below. In the center of the picture, two large hungry ghosts receive food offerings. Below them are scenes of beings suffering in the lower realms, with clouds and mountain ranges in the background.
