Sudeoksa Temple Great Hero Hall

The Great Hero Hall is located within the compound of Sudeoksa (Temple of Practice of Virtue), which is the head temple for the 7th district of the Jogye order of Korean Seon Buddhism. The temple was founded during the Baekje dynasty and renovated at various times. This Great Hero Hall was constructed in 1308 during the Goryeo dynasty. It was listed as National Treasure No. 49 in 1962.
The three-by-four bay hall has a single-eave overhanging gable roof, and stands on a 2.4 m high stone platform. The beams within the hall are exposed. There are ink paintings on the beams, including detailed paintings of birds.
This hall, together with the Ultimate Bliss Hall at Bongjeongsa Temple and the Infinite Life Hall at Buseoksa Temple, constitute the only three outstanding wooden structures of the late Goryeo dynasty (918–1392).
