
Zhanfu, also known as Jie’an, was a monk and artist who ran a studio called Moyu Tang (Ink Rain Hall). At a young age, he renounced under monk Puwan at Baoguo Temple in Yunnan. He was erudite and multi-talented in poetry, calligraphy, painting, and Chan practice. Zhanfu excelled in painting plum blossoms and writing regular script calligraphy to copy the works of Zhong Yao, who was a teacher of the emperor.
His seal engraving artworks were recorded in Seal Collections of Feihongtang. Among them was a white-character square seal, Indulge in Truth and Principles, Speak of Manners, Hold up Righteousness, and Lean on Benevolence. He also produced two publications, Seals Record of Jie’an and Remaining Seals of Moyu Tang.
