Head of a Buddha

As stated in the Diamond Sutra, “No notion of the self, no notion of another, no notion of sentient beings, and no notion of life.” The quote describes the Buddha’s practice of the Bodhisattva path in a past life, and further illustrates his departure from making distinctions and developing attachments; the ideal is detachment from all things, including both the self and the Dharma.
This pictorial seal features the Buddha with a squared face, flat eyebrows, long eyes, and a high, straight nose extending up just beyond the brow lines. The earlobes are round and solid, while the corners of the mouth are turned slightly upward, depicting a smile. As a whole, the image is dignified and exudes a sense of compassion.
