Huang Yi

Huang Yi, also known as Xiaosong or Qiu’an, was a seal engraver, painter, and calligrapher who specialized in poetry and stele inscriptions. He was born in Renhe, Zhejiang (present day Hangzhou, Zhejiang).
Huang is reputed as one of the Eight Masters of Xiling alongside renowned artists including Jiang Ren and Xi Gang, as well as Ding Jing, who is attributed with teaching him the art of seal engraving. Huang enjoyed collecting stele inscriptions and published several books on seal engraving. His works include the seal engravings of Attain Ease in Meditation and Copy of the Ninety-Two Characters of Loushou Stele, both of which are kept at the Palace Museum in Beijing, and Metal and Stone Acquired by Xiaosong, at the Shanghai Museum.
