Standing Buddha

MYANMAR

This Buddha was created in the Mandalay style with extremely fine curls covering the head about which is a jeweled band with a flower decoration that frames the brow line. The narrow eyes are inlaid, the nose is triangular, and the well-defined lips are slightly upturned. Elongated earlobes reach to the shoulders.
The figure’s monastic robe covers both shoulders and has wide hems decorated with tendrils and studded with gems. The left hand steadies the robe’s flaring fall, while a medicinal fruit is held between the thumb and middle finger of the right hand. Gems inlay the petals of the Buddha’s lotus pedestal.
