Tiantong Temple: Cloud Plate Gong

CHINA, Zhejiang, Ningbo

This gong is located under the eaves of the corridor outside the dining hall in Tiantong Temple and is struck to announce meal times. It is decorated with cloud motifs on both sides, with the characters for “sun” and “moon” embossed on the upturned sections. The name of the temple is inscribed in the center on the front, while on the back, there is the date 1934 and the words “Ningbo Basha Lane” and “Cast by Xinshunde Foundry.”
