
Stone
Located in the lower tier on the left side of the west wall, this trapezoidal niche is divided into three bays flanked by two five-story pagodas.The central bay houses a smiling Maitreya Bodhisattva seated with legs crossed at the ankles. Maitreya wears a crown decorated with a flower, earrings, a stole, and a long red and black robe. To the bottom right of the Bodhisattva is a small carving of a kneeling disciple. The bays on either side contain carvings of attendant Bodhisattvas wearing headdresses decorated with flowers, long stoles, and draped garments. The Bodhisattva on the right stands with hands held up at the chest, while the figure on the left holds a jewel in one hand. Two heavenly beings are partially hidden behind the circular flame-patterned nimbus of each Bodhisattva.
The niche lintel is divided into six panels, Carvings of two apsaras holding wish-fulfilling jewels are in the two central panels, while two yaksas and two apsaras appear in the side panels. The lower section of the lintel is carved with triangular patterns and draped curtains.
