Liu Bing

CHINA, Guangdong, Foshan

Born into a family of ceramicists in Shunde district of Foshan, Liu Bing developed his own passion for ceramic arts and entered the Guangzhou Art Academy of Guangdong in 1960. He created a unique style of artwork, and in 1994 Liu won first place in a ceramics competition, being declared a Chinese Ceramic Art Master.
Liu’s award-winning ceramics are simple and elegant, crafted in diverse styles which include the Ru-glaze style of Statuette of Arhat, kept in Xinshiwan Fine Arts Ceramics Factory in Foshan, Guangdong and Little Buddhist Monk. He often collaborates with his older brother, Liu Ze Mian, and his nephew, Liu Zhaojin, to create large-scale sets of sculptures. One such set is Eighteen Arhats, which won the Precious Article award in the China Arts and Crafts Competition. The Guangdong Museum in Guangzhou keeps many of Liu’s pieces, including Melody of Yi Village and Xu Xiake.
