Palcho Monastery Lamdre Hall: Phagpa

CHINA, Tibet, Gyantse

With the full name of Drogon Chogyal Phagpa, he was a nephew of the Sakya Pandita and succeeded him as the Fifth Patriarch of the Sakya school. The figure is depicted as a young monk with a calm and confident composure, sitting cross-legged with hands crossed at the chest in the vajrahumkara (embracing wisdom) mudra. The face is square with spirited eyes and a determined mouth, embodying the prominent teacher and political leader that Drogon Chogyal Phagpa became during the reign of Kublai Khan (reigned 1260–1294).
